Cindy Shermon
Cindy Shermon’s approach to art is refreshing. I love how she uses humor in her work as a way of unity but also showing a different side to the glamour of Vogue or film spotlights at the time. Her photos remind me of one of my favorite works that I’ve come across called Hiker Trash Vogue. A PCT hiker documented and captured portraits of hikers imitating the cliché appearance of high fashion images. The hikers were polar opposite of what would be considered a high fashion image. The photos are beautifully done and have a very romantic sense but the each one is also saturated in sarcasm. It became a community project among the hikers and a creative way to document their story.
