Family of Man
The details of hands can say a lot about a person, who they are and what they do. This photo in the Family of Man exhibition stood out to me because it reminded me of my grandfather’s hands. His hands have always stuck in my mind because they have always looked like the hands of someone who has never been afraid to work hard. His hands are huge and leathery. They are usually scraped or bruised in someway just because his body is aging. But his mind and work ethic have not shaken. They are the hands of someone who has carried his family from dirt to comfort and security. These hands have fought wars and fixed broken things. And they are passing down the skills and experience to the next generation of hard workers in my family. The Family of Man represents this concept too and challenges what it means to be a family in a country that is built on hard work.
